Qld: Infatuated man hires hitman to kill neighbour's defacto

A man who was infatuated with his neighbour and tried to hire a hitman to kill herdefacto, has been given a suspended jail term.

SHANE BRADLEY ALVIN, aged 32, of Ipswich, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Brisbaneto procuring an attempted murder between November 2 and 11 last year.

Justice BRIAN AMBROSE says ALVIN was out of touch with reality and had developed aromantic fantasy about his next door neighbour -- who knew nothing of his feelings.

Justice AMBROSE says ALVIN, who's illiterate and has psychological problems, couldn'tdistinguish between reality and fantasy.

Justice AMBROSE sentenced ALVIN to five years jail -- wholly suspended -- and has advisedhe needs guidance and counselling.

ALVIN has already served 260 days in jail on remand.
