Officers stop suicidal man from jumping

Two Charleston police officers coaxed an apparently suicidal 27-year-old man off a downtown roof. "He was telling us he was goingto jump," Charleston Police Officer Duke Jordan said. "He said hewas in a lot of pain because his girlfriend had passed away."

The man climbed to the roof of a parking garage at the corner ofSummers and Washington streets where someone noticed him sitting onthe edge, one leg dangling. Metro 911 received a call about theincident at 4:09 p.m. Thursday.
