BREWERS SEARCHING FOR LIFE AFTER DRY.(Living Today)

Byline: Eric Talmadge Associated Press

Although Asahi Breweries says "dry" beer is still the biggest thing since the hop, the competition believes Japan may now be ready for the next step in specialty brews - post-dry.

Yoshiki Koga, a spokesman for Sapporo Breweries, battling Asahi for second place in domestic beer sales, said his company is now marketing "post-dry" beers - aimed at even more discriminating tastes.

"Dry beer has taken a certain share of the market, but I've heard rumors that as a fad it has reached its limit," Koga said. "And, to give beer drinkers a more diverse market, Sapporo has introduced Rocks and The Winter's Tale."
